MJ Rice is one of the players with the Kansas basketball program looming on the transfer portal. However, it would be helpful for him to stay with the Jayhawks.

No one on the Kansas bench had the season that they hoped for. Bill Self struggled to find a consistent second unit all season, and it hurt them badly in March Madness.

MJ Rice is someone who had a disappointing year. It can not all be pinned on him, as he was put in some peculiar situations. He showed flashes of the things he was capable of, but had a lingering back issue and was not allowed to thrive.

If Rice could shoot as well as he did in high school and become more aggressive on the offensive end, he would give the Jayhawks a top-notch wing player. He is strong when attacking the rim and known for muscling smaller guards in the high post. Rice can operate as a cutter or ball-distributing guard in Bill Self’s offense — he showed his versatility early in the season with 19 points vs. Texas Southern.

It would not be a logical option for Rice to transfer because of the many prospects that Kansas would provide him. These are three reasons MJ should stay a Jayhawk during his sophomore season.
