Kansas basketball: Five things to know about the Arkansas Razorbacks
4. Arkansas is one of the country’s worst three-point and free-throw shooting teams.
Arkansas has many contributors with size and athleticism within their group. They would be one of the top teams in the nation if they were good at everything, but no team is perfect. And the Razorbacks’ imperfections are very concerning for them.
By no means is Kansas a superb three-point shooting team. It is one of Bill Self’s worst teams behind the arc. However, in comparison to Arkansas, KU should feel pretty good about their jump shooters.
Let’s take a look at the shooting percentages of this Razorback team:
47.5% FG (29th in the nation)
31.7% 3PT (312th in the nation)
69.0% FT (284th in the nation)
For a team that is uber-efficient in paint scoring, Arkansas struggles mightily with jump shots. Nick Smith and Davonte Davis are tied for a team-high 34.4% from the three-point range. Aside from those two, there are virtually no threats on their team on the perimeter.
Teams that upset Kansas in the NCAA Tournament do so by excelling with the three-ball. Although Arkansas might get hot from range, it is comforting to know they will not be pulling shots from 30 feet out of every single possession. Additionally, if there is a free-throw shooting contest late in the game, Kansas has superior percentages in that facet of the game.
