As the Jayhawks look to make waves on the court in the upcoming Big 12 and NCAA Tournament, they have already begun to make waves off the court on the recruiting trail.

Bill Self and his staff landed a commitment from one of the top players in the 2024 class yesterday.

Small forward Marcus Adams Jr. from Harbor City, California, chose the Jayhawks over UCLA and Syracuse during a ceremony in front of friends and family.

The Bruins were thought to be the favorite following his visit to Westwood this past weekend, that was until he placed a KU hat on his head and gave a “Rock Chalk Jayhawk” to the crowd.

The 6-foot-8 Adams is listed as a three-star prospect on Rivals.com but that is likely to change following the next update of the rankings. Adams is listed as a four-star prospect and the No. 29-ranked player in the country on 247sports.com.

Adams is the first player committed to the Jayhawks in the 2024 class, but according to a report from 247sports, Adams could reclassify to the 2023 class.

If that happens it would without a doubt give KU a top 10 class in the country.

The Jayhawks already have commitments from three, four-star guards in the 2023 class: Elmarko Jackson, Jamari McDowell, and Chris Johnson.

Either way, it’s a big pickup for this staff who shows they can continue to recruit at a high level despite the pending NCAA investigation and self-imposed scholarship limitations.

The future almost always looks bright when it comes to Kansas basketball, but that future just got a lot brighter with Adams’ commitment.
