The good news surrounding Kansas football appears to be growing as Kansas Athletic Director Travis Goff announced Thursday that a major announcement would be coming regarding the future of the program.

While appearing as a guest on the ESPNU radio show on SiriusXM Thursday morning, Goff hinted at a lofty news release that should get Kansas fans and alumni excited.

"“We’re going to have a big announcement tomorrow that’s going to make another statement about our commitment to football and building this thing for the long haul,” said Goff."

Speculation started swirling on social media as to what the announcement is going to be.

Many fans are hoping it is an announcement regarding a contract extension for head coach Lance Leipold, but the more likely scenario is that it revolves around a new football stadium.

Under previous athletic directors, plans have been announced and renderings have been shown, but none ever came to fruition.

With Goff now at the helm, that appears to be changing.

No longer is a football stadium renovation an “if” subject, but a “when.” That “when” could be addressed in the announcement coming this weekend.

The impacts of a new stadium would be felt far and wide across the campus, not just for football but the university as a whole and the Lawrence community.

Based on a survey sent out to fans this summer and comments made by KU Chancellor Doug Girod, it appears that the new stadium will be a multi-use facility that can provide a variety of functions such as medical services, retail, and events.

This weekend serves as the perfect timing for an announcement of this magnitude with interest in the program at the highest it’s been since 2009 and College GameDay in town.

And rest assured, Goff wouldn’t be touting the announcement or making the announcement if it wasn’t sure to be happening.
