The Jayhawks have landed their first commitment from a quarterback in their 2023 recruiting class.

Three-star quarterback Kasen Weisman announced his intentions to play for Lance Leipold and Kansas on Thursday afternoon live via his Instagram page.

According to Rivals.com, the 6-foot-2 dual-threat quarterback from Douglasville, Georgia, chose KU over offers from California, Colorado State, Hawaii, Navy, and others. Other than Cal, it appears KU was his only other Power 5 offer – although it does look like he had some interest from schools such as Penn State, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, and other programs.

Weisman recently visited KU in June as part of the football program’s Friday Night Lights summer camp.

Weisman’s commitment brings the 2023 class total to nine as of today. Prior to his commitment, the Jayhawks’ recruiting class was ranked last in the Big 12 and No. 85 overall.

If this past offseason is any indication, it seems as though Leipold and his staff will be aggressive in using the transfer portal to address roster needs.

But with the new NCAA rule that no longer caps recruiting classes at 25 for the next two academic years, look for the Kansas coaching staff to continue to try and bolster their recruiting class before the Early Signing Period begins on Dec. 21.
