Kansas vs Oklahoma Prediction
Oh my, what do we have here? A Kansas team coming off a frustrating loss and a middling Oklahoma squad coming off a huge upset win over Texas Tech? You know what that means! Rock Chalk Jayhawk, baby.
The Jayhawks were uncharacteristically poor at protecting the basketball against Texas with 15 turnovers, which is understandable given Texas’ ferocious defense. Oklahoma has a strong defense as well, but you can bet Bill Self lit into his team after that loss and they’ll be smarter with the ball in this one. I expect the #3-ranked offense in adjusted efficiency to have a stronger effort at home in front of a wild Allen Fieldhouse crowd.
Despite shooting a blistering 13/28 from beyond the arc against Tech, Oklahoma’s offense has been middling at best lately. They’re just 3-6 against the spread (ATS) in their last nine and have put up 70 points just twice in that stretch. On the road, the Sooners are just 1-4 ATS in their last five and I don’t see them hanging with the Jayhawks today.
Kansas should score at will today. They have the 22nd-highest offensive rebounding rate and 10th-highest 2-point shooting percentage against Oklahoma’s 113th-ranked defensive rebounding rate and 166th-best defensive 2-point shooting percentage, so even if the Jayhawks miss shots they’ll given themselves plenty of high-percentage second-chance looks.
Give me Kansas -10.5 (-110) to blow out the Sooners and right the ship. Both teams played uncharacteristically in their last matchups and that’s giving us value here. Bill Self teams don’t lose much, but when they do, they always bounce back.
