Kansas pulled off the impossible last Saturday when they went on the road as 31-point underdogs to beat the Texas Longhorns for their first ever win in Austin.

It was a program-building win that eliminated a horrendous 13-year conference road losing streak and garnered the Jayhawks national attention. It’s the type of win this team can build on, and that’s exactly what they have the chance to do when they go on the road this Saturday at TCU.

The Horned Frogs are currently ranked ninth in the Big 12 with a conference record of 2-5 (4-6 overall). Their record is partially a result of the numerous injuries they’ve suffered recently. Things are so dire they may have to start a wide receiver at quarterback on Saturday.

TCU is also expected to be without their leading rusher Zach Evans due to a previous turf toe injury. They even had freshman cornerback Ahmonte Watkins recently practice with the running backs to help make up for the injury problems at that position as well.

This is all on top of the recent news from just a few weeks ago when TCU parted ways with the school’s all-time winningest head coach Gary Patterson.

The Frogs are in a state of flux, and now is the perfect opportunity for Kansas to take advantage and prove that last week’s win wasn’t a fluke.

The team’s confidence level may be at a high it hasn’t reached in several years coming off that Texas win. And with quarterback Jalon Daniels burning his redshirt to play the rest of this season, the Jayhawks should come in feeling great about their chances.

Too often in years past has Kansas pulled off an upset, or been close to pulling off an upset, and then gone on to get blown out the following week. A similar letdown happened after the near-Oklahoma upset just this season when KU got destroyed by Oklahoma State 55-3 the following week.

The Jayhawks have a real chance to put together back-to-back conference wins for the first time since 2008.

The Texas win was inspiring, and it will go down as one of the most memorable moments – if not the most memorable moment – of the past decade for Kansas football.

Now it’s time to “build on it.”
