4. Discipline is making a difference

Compared to last year, Kansas Football has noticeably reduced its penalty and turnover numbers. Avoiding these costly mistakes was key to the Jayhawks securing the victory.

Kansas was +4 in the turnover margin and only committed four penalties for 30 yards, while Texas was penalized 10 times for 97 yards.

Avoiding costly penalties and turnovers can keep teams in games, even with a talent deficit. This is exactly what we saw in Austin, and the improvement in these two categories is attributable to Lance Leipold, who has clearly emphasized minimizing those mistakes.

5. This is a huge win for the program

Though they have not played like it of late, Texas Football is still a blue blood program. Kansas picking up a road win against a high-profile program in the national spotlight is great exposure for the program.

The entire college football landscape shifted part of its focus towards Kansas Football, this time for the right reasons. Fans, media, and recruits will see this win and it will change their perception of this program.

If Kansas Football and Lance Leipold continue to improve, we could look back at this game from the future as a foundation for better things to come. There is no guarantee of future success, but the Jayhawk Football program is in a much better place than it was last week.
