Kansas Football: Takeaways from the massive upset win at Texas

3. The defense still has work to do
Kansas Football’s defense forced four turnovers, setting up great opportunities for the offense, but there is still much improvement needed. With such a young unit, growing pains are part of the process.
It was encouraging to see the defense forcing four turnovers. Front seven leader Kyron Johnson forced two fumbles, and freshmen O.J. Burroughs and Jacobee Bryant recorded interceptions.
However, the Longhorn offense scored 56 points, recorded 574 yards, threw for 410 yards, converted 30 first downs, and went 7-11 on third down.
KU’s defense needs to find ways to pressure the quarterback more. Often this season, opposing quarterbacks have had plenty of time to throw. At this level, any opposing passer can find success when there is little pass rush.
