It’s clear that the Kansas basketball team has plenty of returning talent, but today we’ll look at a preview for a newcomer who hasn’t broken out his crimson and blue just yet – Remy Martin.

The 6-foot guard and California native should have a chance to jump right into the rotation given his track record and experience at the college level. He was the No.1 ranked transfer this season from Arizona State after passing up his chances at the NBA draft.

Martin averaged 19.1 points and 3.7 assists last season after putting up 19.1 points and 4.1 assists in the 2019-20 season for the Sun Devils.

His time at ASU came with quite the collection of accolades, including All Pac-12 first-team honors his senior and junior seasons, second-team his sophomore year, and Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year his freshman year.

Additionally, Martin was recently ranked the No.12 returning college player.

Martin could join Ochai Agbaji, Jalen Wilson, Christian Braun, and big man David McCormack to round out the starting five. Aside from McCormack, the Jayhawks would have four sharpshooters that can pull the trigger from three-point range on their squad.

If they’re all firing from deep on the same night, KU would be quite the handful for even the best of opponents.

While there’s room for improvement before the season starts, Coach Bill Self has been pleased with what he’s seen so far from Martin. And Self’s not the only one; teammate Agbaji gave Martin quite the comparison to a former Jayhawk.

He compared his quickness to that of point guard Devon Dotson, who earned second-team All-American honors and helped lead KU to a No.1 ranking at the end of the 2019-2020 season.

It’s clear Martin can put points on the board and pad the stat sheet. It’s also clear he has plenty of talent surrounding him, and if he can become a solid facilitator as the center of the offense, KU will be poised for success.

Take into account all of the returning talent for the Kansas basketball team combined with the fact that Martin could fill the void of a high-level point guard, and you’ve got yourself quite the squad for this season.
