Kansas basketball: Potential rotation for Jayhawks after a busy offseason
By Hala Hamid
Kansas basketball rotation: Starting C, David McCormack
Next in line, Mitch Lightfoot
Finally, we have the only position in which both the anticipated starter and backup are returning players from last year’s KU team.
David McCormack should be poised for a big season. While he was slow to start out last year, he was able to really dominate certain games once he got going. If he’s able to pick up where he left off, KU will be poised for success.
McCormack doesn’t do anything flashy, but after playing behind Udoka Azubuike, he has really bulked up and found his rhythm in the paint. If he can continue to perfect a few go-to moves, it should allow KU to continue to depend on him for scoring.
The backup here will be Mitch Lightfoot, who has been the 6th man for a couple of years now. Coach Self has always counted on him to provide a spark during his time on the court. While he most likely won’t double his minutes on the court, he will continue to be a solid backup who plays crucial minutes.
There have certainly been quite a few changes in personnel for KU, but the pieces are looking solid. As with any team, there will be an adjustment for the younger players and it will take time for the chemistry to happen, but that’s what Coach Self thrives it.
With a Hall of Fame coach and talented, dedicated players, KU fans should be excited for what’s to come this season.
