Kansas football: Former Jayhawk Karon Prunty back in the transfer portal
It appears former Kansas football star defensive back Karon Prunty is back in the transfer portal after transferring to South Carolina earlier this year.
Prunty was one of the few bright spots for the Jayhawks in 2020.
In his freshman campaign with the Jayhawks, he racked up 26 total tackles, one tackle for a loss, an interception, and nine pass breakups. He was also ranked 7th in the nation among defensive backs with a completion percentage of just 38.5% which helped him in being named to the True Freshman All-American team.
When Prunty decided to enter the transfer portal while at Kansas he cited personal reasons and wanted to be closer to his home in Portsmouth, VA.
He also had Tennessee on this list before eventually committing to South Carolina.
Kansas football fans should wish Prunty well
Prunty’s decision to enter the transfer portal for a second time comes as a bit of a surprise, especially for South Carolina fans as he was a projected starter.
A post on The Big Spur 247 Sports page by staff writer Hale McGranahan states, “It sounds like there weren’t too many folks in the building who knew what exactly was going on and why Karon Prunty hadn’t practiced since Saturday.”
He continued, “But the feeling was this: it’s a pretty serious matter that doesn’t have anything to do with football.”
Regardless of what is going on with Prunty, the hope is that he and his family are OK.
He has a lot of promise and at this point is considered an NFL prospect. Whatever happens, hopefully, he lands on his feet and is able to continue playing football.
