Kansas basketball’s options for conference realignment

ACC or Pac 12

If the Big Ten does not invite KU, the ACC or Pac-12 could be secondary options.

Like the Big Ten, Kansas would make the ACC college basketball’s best conference.

If the Big 12 falls, expect West Virginia join the ACC. With Notre Dame as a partial member, the ACC only needs one more team. When the next round of television contracts come up, Notre Dame could become a full member.

The Pac-12 would help KU recruit the west coast and the Pac-12 would receive a ratings boost. In this scenario, they would likely to expand to form the Pac-16. In addition, the Pac-12 likely recruits Baylor, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech.

The Pac-16’s competition level could allow for a quicker Kansas football rebuild and Kansas basketball would be king on arrival.

The downside for Kansas is revenue would likely be lower than the other power leagues and travel costs would increase.
