Kansas basketball has a blue-chip prospect in Marcus Carr
It appears Kansas basketball is in the running for highly sought-after Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr.
The six-foot-two guard has narrowed down his interests to Kentucky, Texas, Louisville, and Kansas, according to a late-morning tweet from ESPN’s Jeff Borzello.
Carr started his college career in 2017 at Pittsburgh, starting in 27 of 32 games as a freshman.
He would then transfer as a redshirt to Minnesota the following season, where he found more floor time in the Big Ten. By the end of Carr’s 2020 season, he was averaging an impressive 19.4 points and 4.9 assists per game.
After completing his third year with the Gophers, Carr would declare for the 2021 NBA Draft, as well as throw his name into the transfer portal.
Recently pulling his name out of the NBA Draft, he’s been receiving attention from programs all over the country looking to snag the veteran ballplayer. It just so happens that Kansas is on his list of options.
The Jayhawks have been building an interesting roster this offseason. Between incoming talent and securing transfers such as former Arizona State point guard Remy Martin, it’s been fun to watch.
With Jalen Wilson also coming back to the roster for 2021, this may be a team Carr would like to be a part of, considering the existing talent in Lawrence. If head coach Bill Self can convince the former Gopher to become a Jayhawk before he hits the NBA, this team will become an explosive force in the Big 12.
Considering Ochai Agbaji is still a mystery at the moment, this would be an excellent rebound for the Jayhawks in the event he stays in the draft.
Carr’s recruitment will be heating up through July, and the race to secure the upperclassman will be an interesting one. He’ll add a must-have layer of support to almost any college basketball roster, and could end up giving Kansas the right boost in 2021.
