Ochai Agbaji‘s NBA Draft exploration seems to be a topic I just can’t stay away from these days, but then again, who could? Kansas basketball fans are sifting through Twitter nearly every hour to see what the latest news could be on an update about Agbaji.

Unfortunately, Agbaji’s ambitions have been a tough nut to crack. Originally a projected late second-round pick, his draft combine numbers didn’t stand out much and likely weakened his draft stock in the process.

The deadline to withdraw is July 7, and he may be taking all the time allowed.

Decisions from both Agbaji and Arizona State transfer Remy Martin remain to be unknown. They’re gauging this year’s draft for what it’s worth, however, returning to Kansas is the better move to improve their draft position in 2022.

If Ochai chooses to return with the Jayhawks, a dynamite roster is instantly formed. Assuming Martin takes the same route, this will be one exciting basketball team.

This is good news for Kansas’ 2022 recruiting trail too, as the impressive lineup will surely give Kansas a chance to post a solid season worth marketing to potential talent. It may also help pick up a couple of three-star/four-star prospects on the fence.

While there’s plenty of positives in bringing Ochai back, it’s his decision at the end of the day.

It’s difficult to pinpoint where Agbaji would fall in the 2021 NBA Draft, considering the names ahead of him. He’d likely land somewhere past the second round, which may still give him the chance to contribute lightly during his first year in the league.

However, this isn’t the best path for the prospective senior. Agbaji is an excellent ballplayer with talent that will aid this Kansas team immensely if he returns. Another year will almost definitely strengthen his draft stock in the future and set him up for a better professional career.

The deadline is drawing closer, sitting just three days away. Until then, keep your eyes glued to the news for any early surprises.
