2022 three-star cornerback Jalon Peoples has committed his talents to Kansas football, giving the Jayhawks a major boost on defense.

The Cedar Hill senior has been exploring multiple programs this summer, including offers from Big 12 neighbors Baylor and Texas Tech. Beating out rivaling offers for Peoples is a great sign for Kansas recruiting, and is showing the solid effort of a rebound.

Recruited heavily by corners coach Chevis Jackson and wide receivers coach Emmett Jones, it seems a strong impression from the Kansas camp helped secure the talented defender.

The role of Coach Jackson and Coach Jones in this program shouldn’t be taken for granted, as it has a strong impact on the culture being promoted to potential prospects.

In other words, they’re getting results.

The relationship between Emmett Jones and Jalon Peoples may have been the kicker of the young corner’s recruitment process. Both have strong connections in Dallas, allowing for a powerful advantage when engaging in discussions about the Kansas program.

Peoples has expressed his fondness of Jones and seems to have quite a bit of respect built up for the Jayhawk coach.

"“Coach Jones has just been real with me since day one. That shows his loyalty to me. So, I’m going to show my loyalty to him. He’s a great coach and just a great man overall.”Jalon Peoples on Kansas wide receivers coach Emmett Jones (Rivals.com)"

Sustaining interest similar to Peoples’ will be crucial moving forward for Kansas football. Currently, Kansas can’t shop around a winning program, but there are quite a few names on this coaching staff capable of building something new in Lawrence.

It’s been said for years now, only time will tell whether or not real change comes with head coach Lance Leipold and his new/retained staff. The good news is that proper steps are being taken to push the Jayhawks in the right direction to start winning again.

While the recruiting process will always be a careful one for nearly all college programs, Kansas is walking on pins and needles. Despite this, landing recruits such as Peoples is a refreshing sight for most fans’ Twitter feeds.
