Former Kansas football corner Karon Prunty will be coming to a decision this weekend on his next stop. The former Jayhawk was a breakout defender in 2020 and has been a high-profile prospect in the transfer portal.

Prunty made the decision to enter the transfer portal in early June, following the transition to new head coach Lance Leipold’s staff. The rising sophomore was originally recruited during the Les Miles era by current cornerbacks coach Chevis Jackson.

Citing personal reasons, Karon Prunty will be taking his talents to a new program this fall. It appears he’s narrowed his choices down to two SEC programs: South Carolina and Tennessee.

A decision from the Kansas transfer should be announced this weekend.

Posting 22 solo tackles and an interception during his freshman season with the Jayhawks, Prunty would earn All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors, as well as being named a Freshman All-American by 247 Sports.

One of Kansas most talented defensive members, Prunty made significant contributions during a season that didn’t feature many positives. It was a possibility that he’d leave after former head coach Les Miles’ departure, and it seems that came to be after all.

Now, it’s a whole new stage for Prunty. He’ll have the opportunity to find exposure in one of college football’s most talented conferences and receive more attention from NFL scouts.

Whether Prunty goes Gamecocks or Volunteers, one program is going to receive an exciting, young defender. Making the move from the Big 12 after just one season, there will be eyes on him for sure in 2021.
