New Kansas football center Mike Novitsky improves the offensive line
By Cade Stout
New Kansas football head coach Lance Leipold is already making a strong impact in Lawrence, bringing several players with him from Buffalo.
Among them is center Mike Novitsky, who is poised to play a key role on the offensive line.
In 2020, Novitsky was awarded 1st team All-MAC and was an important contributor to one of the nation’s best offensive lines. Mike has established himself as a capable pass and run blocker.
He surrendered only one sack all of last season and Buffalo’s offensive line allowed Bulls running backs to average 287.4 yards rushing per game, second in the FBS.

Importantly, Novitsky has three years of eligibility remaining, giving KU longevity at center.
The offensive line has been a weakness for Kansas football over the last few years, limiting the running game’s explosive potential and quarterback development.
Adding a player like Novitsky will immediately better the offensive line in talent and depth.
Improvements on the offensive line will give KU’s talented running backs: Velton Gardner, Daniel Hishaw, and Amauri Pesek-Hickson room to run.
Novitsky’s addition could elevate the passing game, alleviating some of the heavy quarterback pressure seen last season. Whoever wins the starting quarterback job will have a better chance to develop a rhythm and connection with the receivers.
Joining Mike Novitsky are several of his teammates from Buffalo including fellow offensive lineman Michael Ford, Jr. These additions can energize the locker room and accelerate the implementation of a winning culture at Kansas, vital to the rebuild.
Look for Novitsky to contribute significantly to the Jayhawk offensive line, potentially giving the offense a lift this upcoming season.
