Following a disappointing winless senior season, senior wide receiver Kwamie Lassiter II will be returning to Kansas football for his fifth year of eligibility.

Arguably one of Kansas’ most talented playmakers last season, Lassiter’s potential was held back by a struggling offense that limited opportunities for success.

Luckily, he’ll be utilizing his extra year due to the pandemic and could make a stronger impact for the Jayhawks’ efforts this fall.

Having Lassiter ready to go this September will be a must, as head coach Lance Leipold will be looking to kick-off his tenure at Kansas with a bang.

While Kansas’ spring game showcased quite a bit of defensive talent, former interim head coach and current wide receivers coach Emmett Jones could be brewing something interesting in the background.

Attacking through the air could be a new avenue for Coach Leipold depending on the growth through new quarterbacks coach Jim Zebrowski and where his position group is at before Week 1.

However, the Jayhawks passing game hasn’t been much to talk about in recent years and last season’s numbers contribute to that sad reality.

While Lassiter has been one of Kansas’ most talented receivers, he wasn’t to most reliable in 2020. The veteran receiver has been making steady progress this spring during the coaching transition and should have a fresh mindset when he returns to the field in the fall.

Kwamie has been able to make catches under pressure, which a major plus for this offense. If he can become more consistent, he will be a valuable asset for Coach Leipold’s offense.

However, finding success in the air starts with an improved passing effort, which should be a talking point for this team throughout most of the summer.
