Cathedral Catholic forward Dillon Wilhite will join Kansas basketball next season as a walk-on, adding more support inside the paint.

Wilhite will make the trip from San Diego to Lawrence following a high school career that attracted offers from Army, Navy, and Air Force.

Standing at 6′ 9”, Wilhite will bring more size to the Jayhawks’ roster. Despite not landing an offer from KU, there is still room for the incoming freshman to contribute next season.

His highlights feature a confident presence inside, along with the ability to win battles off the glass. Dependability is huge in college basketball and could pay dividends for Wilhite in the future.

Considering the pending decisions to return from Ochai Agbaji and Jalen Wilson, there could be a scholarship open before the start of the 2021 season.

Wilhite could find minutes as soon as next season, however, fans shouldn’t expect many from him out of the gate.

Assuming Wilson returns for his junior year, Kansas will likely look towards returning senior David McCormack and Wilson for support inside.

Despite limited minutes, Wilhite’s first season in Lawrence could be a strong building block.

McCormack’s senior season could serve as an excellent developmental block in Wilhite’s career at Kansas and could support his growth as a player.

Continuing to promote growth inside should be an objective for Kansas and the more reliability they can build inside, the safer they’ll be position-wise.
