Freshman guard Bryce Thompson made an excellent impression with Kansas basketball, however, it appears he’ll be taking his talents to Oklahoma State after entering the transfer portal in April.

Thompson found some exciting minutes with the Jayhawks during the bottom half of the 2020-21 campaign. While not finding more than a couple of buckets per game, Bryce was a speedy part of the Jayhawks’ offense this past season.

It seems he wants to stay in the Big 12, which is a strong move by the young player. Despite his young age, Bryce holds a lot of potential to succeed in this conference.

Thompson did suffer a couple of injury hiccups throughout the season, including a finger injury that forced him to miss a handful of games mid-season.

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton recruited Thompson heavily following his decision to enter the transfer portal. Bryce’s top schools included Oklahoma and Tulsa, two schools close to home.

It could be those home-roots that attracted Thompson to the Cowboys program and it could be the change of pace he is looking for.

There is still room to grow with Thompson and it will be something Oklahoma State fans should be excited about. Bryce’s sophomore season could find some flashes, which could amplify some things that may have been overlooked by Kansas.

At the same time, fans should realize that Bryce is young and his time at Kansas will benefit him down the road. For his freshman season, he found adequate floor time for someone with his level of potential.

He can grow exponentially with the Cowboys and that may the best scenario for him. There are a lot of factors that could’ve influenced his decision to leave KU, however, it isn’t to say he left a stage where he could succeed.

Regardless, this will create an interesting meeting between Bryce and Kansas next season.
