Kansas football’s defense is still a work in progress this spring, however, we’ve seen some excellent signs this spring from returning cornerback Kenny Logan Jr.

As defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot continues to condition his defenders for the upcoming spring showcase, it’ll be interesting to see where Logan is most effective defensively.

Responsible for 40 solo tackles and a pair of interceptions in his previous season, there should be some room for growth considering how poor Kansas’ defense was in 2020.

However, progress is being made and it seems Kenny is motivated to continue making positive changes to the Jayhawks’ defense.

We’ve been able to witness some of his creativity during spring practices so far and frankly, fans should be happy with what we’re seeing.

With a skillset that includes speed and precision, Logan brings a lot of possibilities to the table for this Kansas team. Fans should be excited to see where he thrives this coming season.

The sophomore showed some flashes in the 2020 season, even finding some success on special teams against Iowa State.

Along with his pressure in the air, Logan can be a threat in the backfield. His speed allowed for a momentum-shifting fumble against Baylor that resulted in a 4th down punt.

While Kansas’ efforts weren’t enough to create much of a compelling product this past season, some strong strides can be made if playmakers like Logan continue to improve.

Having his level of effort is essential for getting stops and it could be a contributing factor in any changes we see in 2021.

We’ll likely see him take on more special teams roles in the coming season, an avenue Kansas should’ve taken more advantage of this past season in my opinion.

Regardless, Logan has the opportunity to become a significant defensive leader this coming season and he has the potential to bring this defense to a better place.
