Kansas basketball alumni Danny Manning is heading to Maryland after serving as head coach at Wake Forest for 6 seasons.

Manning had worked at Kansas as an assistant from 2006-2012 when he departed for the top job at Tulsa. Since then, he’s held a head coaching record of 116-140.

There had been some speculation of whether or not Manning would return to Kansas after Jerrance Howard’s departure earlier this year, however, it seems he’ll be joining Mark Turgeon‘s staff with the Terrapins.

The Big Ten provides a new start for Manning, who has led 3-straight losing seasons at Wake Forrest since his 2016-17 campaign.

Fans might’ve suspected Danny to consider his old stomping grounds in Lawrence, and Howard’s departure opened up an opportunity for him to become involved with the program once again.

Instead, he’ll be joining a Maryland program that is on the move. Coach Turgeon has made the NCAA Tournament 5 of his last 7 seasons in College Park.

Maryland has interest surrounding the program as well, including the recent commitment from Utah transfer Ian Martinez.

It seems Danny will be continuing his coaching career in the Northeast, and whether or not he’ll ever return to the Sunflower State remains to be determined.
