Kansas football spring rushing analysis and early impressions

Velton Gardner

One of Kansas’ strongest rushers coming into the fall, current junior Velton Gardner will bring some experience back to next season’s roster.

Despite missing a decent portion of the 2020 campaign due to injuries, Gardner still showcased some growth early in Kansas’ season.

Velton rushed for upwards of 80 yards in last year’s season-opener against Coastal Carolina but struggled to find much traction as the Jayhawks entered their conference schedule.

Whether or not he’ll see the same amount of touches is up for debate, however, as he’ll be competing with some younger this spring.

With the ability to turn on the jets, Gardner can be a weapon for Kansas in the right context. Open space is any rusher’s best friend, and finding more of it will help Velton be more productive going forward.

Velton could bring a lot to the table in 2021. We should hope to see him regain his confidence during spring practices, and hopefully find a rhythm inside during the annual spring game.
