Senior guard Marcus Garrett will have to decide whether to spend another year with Kansas basketball, or move on to the next stage and declare for the NBA Draft.

The walls are closing in on Marcus’ decision, and it could be soon considering the number of roster moves that have taken place so far during Kansas’ offseason.

Kansas’ bench will look much different next season, and this could be affecting Garrett’s consideration of returning to Lawrence for another season.

While the skilled defender may have his sights set on taking his talents to the next level, there are still some fans that would rather him wear the crimson and blue for another year.

By the end of the 2020-21 campaign, Garrett had been averaging 11 points per game and it seemed that his defense was starting to solidify as the conference postseason began.

Unfortunately, pandemic challenges within Kansas’ program forced the Jayhawks to miss a handful of matchup opportunities before the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament in Indianapolis.

Marcus’ keen focus will market him as a strong defensive option in the upcoming NBA Draft, which could have any number of franchises considering the 2019-20 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.

It’s hard to tell where exactly his thoughts are, but he does have strong feelings for the Kansas program, as expressed during his Senior Night speech.

Considering his extra year of eligibility, Garrett could bring additional leadership to a Kansas team that will have an adjusted younger roster next season.

Having his experience would be beneficial, however, it may not be the kind of environment Marcus wants to be in anymore. He has contributed quite a bit to the program in recent years, and it shouldn’t surprise fans if he other ambitions.

As the NBA Draft approaches, we’ll have to keep an eye out for any word on Garret’s decision, which could come relatively soon.
