Following former AD Jeff Long’s departure, Kansas football made a safe call hiring WR coach Emmett Jones to serve as interim head coach.

Kansas football has named WR coach Emmett Jones as their interim head coach following the departure of former head coach Les Miles.

Full details on the interim head coaching decision from Kansas Athletics can be found here.

Jones will assume head operations of the program for the time being, while Kansas begins its search for a new athletic director as well.

Jones will be approaching his third season in Lawrence, previously serving as a passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Kansas program.

Hiring Emmett was a strong move by Kansas, as the inside hire should promote some solidarity within the roster heading into spring practices.

However, recruiting will continue to be an uneasy factor for the Jayhawks. Only time will tell on how this will affect future recruiting classes if Jones is still in the driver’s seat when the 2021 season kicks off.

The good news is that this team has a great deal of respect for Jones and is very pleased with the move by Kansas to move the offensive coach into a leadership role.

For those of you that may be skeptical of where Kansas’ head coaching plans are heading, just keep in mind that this program is looking for someone to land them on their feet.

Hiring inside was the only way to go in this situation, especially with how much negative press has come out of this whole situation.

Strengthening attitudes about the program’s direction has been a challenge but this decision is a step in the right direction roster-wise.
