Old friend Pooka Williams Jr. will be returning to Lawrence for Kansas’ pro day after the NFL extended Scouting Combine invite to the former Jayhawk.

Former Kansas football leading rusher Pooka Williams will return to Lawrence for pro day following an invite from the NFL for their virtual scouting combine.

Due to pandemic circumstances, schools will be hosting pro days locally and submitting results to NFL personnel.

Pooka will be one of a long list of Jayhawks who have entered the combine in Kansas’ history. With over 2,300 rushing yards in his career at Kansas, he stands out among the rest.

This past season, Williams withdrew from the Jayhawks’ 2021 season due to concerns with his family back home in Louisiana. Since then, he’s expressed his interest in playing at the next level.

Announcing his departure from Kansas and his training for pro day, Pooka will get his chance to showcase his talents this Friday.

While it’s great to see Pooka finding national attention with his invite, it’s tough to watch one of the best rushers in Kansas football history step away from the collegiate setting.

Pooka played one season under former head coach David Beaty’s staff, who had recruited him back in 2017.

He’ll be entering the NFL at an interesting time as the country continues to recover from the pandemic, which has changed the sports landscape, to say the least.

We should assume that Pooka will receive adequate attention from a range of franchises, as his skillset brings multiple opportunities to the table, even with his size.

This year’s draft is set for April 29th and will showcase some of college football’s best offerings at the running back position.

The Washington Football Team holds a spot around the middle of the pack, and could possibly take Williams in the second or third round due to their running back vacancy. If not, we’ll see him possibly find some consideration by teams on the hungrier end of the draft order.

I think it’s safe to say Pooka will have some eyes on him as the draft day rolls around, and it’ll be nice for Kansas football to see some positive recognition heading into the spring/summer months.
