Capitalizing on senior night, Kansas basketball knocked off No. 2 Baylor at Allen Fieldhouse to hand the Bears their first loss of the season.

Kansas basketball is starting to change the narrative after last night’s senior night win.

Despite Baylor’s absence from the floor, the Jayhawks finished the night with a much different look, one that fans should be excited about.

Following the upset win over No. 2 Baylor to close out their conference schedule, the Jayhawks will be one of the best contenders heading into the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City.

While Kansas has been slowly getting back into a groove, the win at home over the Bears should be turning some heads.

Making strong contributions on his senior night performance, Marcus Garrett looked very comfortable against the Bears.

The senior guard posted 14 points with 7 total rebounds, along with an impressive defensive performance.

Garrett had been rather stagnant throughout January, however, this past month has featured some of the best from the upperclassman.

Along with Garrett, David McCormack and Jalen Wilson had excellent performances as well. These two created a very tough night for the Bears’ offense, holding Baylor’s Jared Butler to just 5 points.

As I mentioned, Kansas had a much more positive look tonight against the Bears. The Jayhawks’ roster put together a well-rounded game. Kansas’ ended with a decent stat sheet despite the lack of success from the three-point line.

While Baylor was coming off a long break due to pandemic concerns, the game was an obvious fan-favorite for viewers.

Say what you will about Baylor’s issues with the pandemic, but I’m convinced that Kansas’ team is starting to click at the right time. There’s still plenty of room to improve but seeing a win like that should be extremely refreshing for Jayhawk fans.

Kansas will have another matchup with UTEP on March 4th, which should give them a chance to stretch their legs before the Big 12 Tournament.

While the Jayhawks won’t be capturing a conference title this season, I don’t think that’s their concern right now. If I’m head coach Bill Self, I’m working on getting these guys to make a strong showing in Kansas City next week before the NCAA Tournament.
