In an unexpected blow to the Kansas football coaching staff, it appears OC Brent Dearmon is expected to fill a role at Middle Tennessee.

The unfortunate news of OC Brent Dearmon‘s departure from the Kansas football program has surfaced tonight on Twitter and it puts the Jayhawks in a tough position.

While it was always a possibility, Dearmon had just recently been promoted to OC for Kansas in 2019 and his absence in 2021 will be another blow to the team’s rebuilding efforts.

Dearmon’s move comes after a winless season by Kansas and this must’ve had some kind of impact on his decision to take his efforts elsewhere. Brent has experience with programs such as Auburn, Bethel College, Arkansas Tech, and now Kansas is the most recent stop on his resume.

Moving from the Big 12 to Conference USA may seem like a “downgrade” for the coach, but Dearmon has promise and he was well respected during his time with the Jayhawks despite the minimal success he found with the program.

The issue is now, Kansas doesn’t have an OC. I’m sure it’ll be a few weeks before we hear much news as to what route head coach Les Miles will decide to take. I’d imagine Miles knew about Dearmon’s decision to some degree, which may have promoted some early thinking.

Regardless, it’s back to square one for the offensive coordinating job and hopefully, the program can snag a veteran coach to help push this offense back into shape. Only time will tell, and the good news is that there is a long off-season ahead for Kansas to balance things out.
