Following his short absence due to a back injury, Bryce Thompson returned for Kansas basketball against the Cowboys but will now miss time on the floor due to a finger injury sustained during Tuesday’s game.

Bryce Thompson returned for Kansas basketball this past Tuesday but following his return, he would hurt his hand after diving for the ball in the second half. It’s been revealed that Thompson sustained a broken finger against the Cowboys and will be missing considerable time for the Jayhawks.

The freshman from Tulsa, Oklahoma had recently been recovering from a back injury that had caused him to miss three games. He was cleared and entered the game for Kansas in the second half.

Thompson had seen a lot of pressure from the Cowboy’s defense and after 13 minutes of solid play, he found himself diving for the ball. Following the recovery attempt, Bryce left the game gripping his wrist.

Unfortunately for Kansas, Thompson had been mixing well with the lineup and was finding decent playing time before his back injury. It’s no question that head coach Bill Self wanted to get him back on the court and helping in every way he could.

Now with another injury, this one appearing more time-consuming, Bryce will be absent for quite a few games. Head coach Bill Self is not sure of the “exact details” of the injury but has been assured that the finger is broken. More can be found in his postgame interview here.

Regardless, the loss of Thompson will only further some of the challenges we’ve seen Kansas facing in their recent games. They will have a chance to rebound against Iowa State on Saturday at home.

The matchup with the Cyclones could be an opportunity for Dajuan Harris and Tyon Grant-Foster to see more time on the floor. Keeping our available young talent involved is surely apart of the discussion and will likely be looked at closer during Thompson’s absence.
