Kansas basketball has a good looking team this season. Still, winning the Big 12 is going to be a challenge this season given the competition.
The Big 12 is always a solid conference, but the competition will be especially elite this season. Kansas basketball, Baylor, and West Virginia are all ranked in the top 10, while Texas and Texas Tech are both in the top 15. Due to the elite level of the conference, it’s going to be tough for Kansas, or any team for that matter, to win the Big 12 title this season.
It’s also important to keep in mind that the Jayhawks will not have their usual homecourt advantage at Allen Fieldhouse due to COVID-19 protocols. Only 2,500 fans per game are allowed compared to the usual 16,300, meaning that the Jayhawks could have a tougher time winning at home.
The good news for Kansas is that they have the best coach in the conference and one of the best in the country too. There’s no doubt that Bill Self will have the Jayhawks playing their best basketball sooner rather than later.
The Jayhawks also have a legit star in Jalen Wilson, who’s been a major surprise this season for a lot of Kansas basketball fans. Wilson is averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, and he’s been nothing short of incredible for the Jayhawks so far. He will undoubtedly be a massive part of any success Kansas has this season.
The Jayhawks open conference play against No. 11 Texas Tech on the road tonight before taking on No. 8 West Virginia at home on December 22. After that, Kansas will have a nice break before resuming play against Texas on January 2. These first three games should help paint a clear picture of how Kansas will do against the rest of this loaded conference.
