Kansas football will not be playing against Texas this Saturday after a shutdown of the Longhorns’ football operations due to the coronavirus, ending the Jayhawk’s 2020 campaign at 0-9.

After uneasy concerns whether or not we’d see Kansas football in action this weekend, the final blow to both the rematch and the Jayhawk’s season was handed out this afternoon.

Texas was set to play Kansas in Lawrence after the previous postponement in November. The game was declared a “no contest” by the Big 12 Conference. Details can be found in this release from Texas Athletics.

The Jayhawks were coming into the weekend following a tough battle in the Lone Star State, coming up short to Texas Tech by a score of 16-13. It’s safe to say the Jayhawks had a chip on their shoulder and we’re hoping to find another chance for success against a talented Texas Longhorns program.

The cancellation ends both Texas and Kansas seasons. The Longhorns finished with a 6-3 record (5-3 Big 12), and the Jayhawks finished 0-9 (0-8 Big 12).

The cancellation is a disappointment for Jayhawk seniors, despite having another year of eligibility. The transfer portal has been in discussion lately, and this will likely open some gaps on our Jayhawk’s roster.

The quarterback conversation will likely continue. We should expect freshman Jalon Daniels and junior Miles Kendrick to be competing once again when Spring ball begins. It should prove to be an interesting matchup going into 2021, as both quarterbacks were used the most by Kansas this season.

The offseason begins today for Kansas and as Signing Day approaches on February 3rd, we’ll be watching to see if any of our closely watched recruits decided to throw on the crimson and blue.
