Freshman guard Bryce Thompson found an exciting performance against the #8 Creighton Bluejays yesterday as Kansas basketball picked up it’s 5th win of the season.

A young player we weren’t expecting to get much time on the floor against #8 Creighton, Bryce Thompson, had a decent afternoon for Kansas basketball yesterday. Thompson picked up 8 points and 2 rebounds, finding the most success of any Jayhawk off the bench.

Thompson was feeling confident in the paint for the Jayhawks, as he pushed the limits of Creighton’s defense multiple times. The freshman found a couple of crucial baskets for Kansas and started to get some attention on Twitter.

Now obviously Bryce has room to grow, there were some crucial plays breakaway for the Bluejays that fell back on him. One example was this steal from Denzel Mahoney. He’s going to have to lock in a bit more on offense, but with his ball-handling, I think this will improve with time.

Thompson has seen a limited amount of playtime so far this season, and I think will see him find more time on the floor in Big 12 play. The important consideration for head coach Bill Self is surrounding him with young talents such as Jalen Wilson and Christian Braun.

This should help Thompson progress more on offense and capitalize on the potential we’ve witnessed so far. He has a strong shooting arm and seems to have some confidence driving to the basket. Finding him opportunities inside could help rack up points for the Jayhawks.

Getting more help from our younger guys will be vital this season. We must get strong looks from younger guards like Bryce Thompson, and even Dajuan Harris, who has found some playing time against tough opponents such as Kentucky and North Dakota State.

Having our younger guards comfortable will pay dividends for us down the road in the event of an unfortunate injury or absence.
