Kansas basketball is off to a solid start this year at 4-1, and Tyon Grant-Foster is making some strong impressions in his first few games.

Hailing from Kansas City, Tyon Grant-Foster has been contributing to Kansas basketball’s early-found success so far this season. He will likely be seen more throughout the year, and his development will be something for fans to watch.

The junior juco transfer had an impressive showing against North Dakota State. Grant-Foster found 8 rebounds and helped Kansas stave off the Bison’s offense at the end of the second half.

Quick footed, Tyon has shown his ability to be a strong defender for the Jayhawks. Having sharper minds on defense will save Kansas some points, and is a must-have for when we enter our Big 12 schedule.

So far this season, Kansas’ defense has caused some fan speculation. The Jayhawks have allowed upwards of 58 points per game, and I’d imagine this will only go higher unless the Jayhawks can establish tighter pressure on defense.

The good news is that Kansas has featured some more action on the defensive side of the ball. Seeing Grant-Foster step up and establish more pressure is a good sign, as this should only help Kansas going forward. The defensive situation for Kansas isn’t dire, but it could be improved upon.

In regards to Grant-Foster, having his impressive defense at our disposal is going to make him more valuable to the roster. I expect head coach Bill Self will try to play Tyon more as the season progresses. The upcoming contest with Creighton will likely feature the junior guard, and hopefully, give us an edge on defense.

We’ll continue to watch Grant-Foster throughout the season, and I would assume he’ll see more time on the floor. He’s got plenty of potential for his career at Kansas, and I’m sure he’s got a starting spot on this roster on his mind.
