Kansas basketball’s Jalen Wilson has looked incredible through four games with the Jayhawks this season.
After losing Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike, there were a lot of questions as to where Kansas basketball’s offense would come from this season. So far, redshirt freshman Jalen Wilson has stepped up and exceeded all expectations after only playing in a couple of minutes of one game last season.
Wilson is currently averaging 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while also shooting over 50 percent from the field. He’s also started three out of the Jayhawks’ four games while only playing about 24 minutes per game. There’s no doubt that Bill Self will start giving Wilson more minutes, especially after his performance against Kentucky earlier this week.
In that game, Wilson was easily the Jayhawks’ MVP, scoring 23 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. He was one of the only people who shot the ball well that night, shooting 55 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the three-point line.
While junior guard Ochai Agbaji is currently leading Kansas basketball in scoring and playing well, it’s safe to say that Wilson is probably the biggest surprise so far this season. He’s been a key player for the Jayhawks on the offensive end, and he will likely continue to start games.
If he can keep playing the way he has been, the former four-star recruit could make the leap to the NBA after this season if he chooses to do so. Hopefully, he will choose to stay in Lawrence at the end of this season, but there’s still a lot of time between now and that decision.
As this season progresses, Wilson seems like a great candidate to make an All-Big 12 team too. He’s certainly playing like a first-teamer so far, and if he can keep it up, there’s no reason why he can’t lead the Jayhawks in scoring.
