Kansas football was given a 21-day absence from the field until Saturday night, where TCU handed the Jayhawks a thunderous 59-23 blowout on Senior Night in Lawrence.

Whew. I mean, holy smokes this program is bad. I would typically stand up for Kansas football, but 2020 Senior Night may go down as one of the worst games of both the program and Les Miles’ career.

TCU came into Lawrence and simply leveled the Jayhawk defense. The Horned Frogs stacked up 443 total yards against Kansas, and the issues didn’t stop there. Kansas couldn’t seem to combat TCU quarterback Max Duggan, he had all the time he could desire in the pocket.

This would cause havoc to the Kansas pass coverage, which let up not one, not two, but three completely uncovered touchdowns. This combined with a relentless rushing attack from TCU’s Zach Evans, who posted 100 rushing yards on the evening. These early scores would set the tone for the rest of the mistakes from the Jayhawks.

The offense tried to establish some secrecy with an initially mixed combo between freshman Jalon Daniels and senior Thomas MacVittie, this seemed to cost us a down more than anything. The senior quarterback couldn’t help make any quick strides for the Jayhawk offense. Daniels would find the first touchdown pass of his career, after airing one out to senior receiver Kwamie Lassiter II.

Coach Miles tried to find some trickery to channel some momentum for the Jayhawks and had some minor success with an on-side kick, that would actually end up losing 47 yards on the drive, forcing a punt. A quick quarterback change to Miles Kendrick before the end of the first half would dig up some life, as he made a quick run down the field and find Luke Grimm for a 14 yard TD.

Kendrick would find another touchdown to Grimm in the second half, although an interception returned for a touchdown in the third quarter would have the junior quarterback remain stagnant for the rest of the game. Kansas couldn’t keep it together on defense, and the poor start the Jayhawks out of tune on both sides of the ball. We’ve seen what happens when Kansas starts to fall behind, and last Saturday’s pile-up was no exception.

Kansas football is in a big rut, and there isn’t much looking up for Les Miles. He’s going to have to put up with the critics and answer to the fans about what’s happening with this program. Things aren’t getting better, and we can only raise our eyebrows for so long. I’m tired of watching this team get pummeled every Saturday, and it’s only a matter of time before fans start to question the investment KU has with Les Miles.
