Kansas football parted ways with offensive line coordinator Luke Meadows last week, putting the Jayhawks’ offensive situation in limbo.

In an attempt to mitigate the issues seen on this horrendous offensive line, Kansas football made the decision to relieve OL Coach Luke Meadows of his duties last Friday.

Seeing how Kansas is winless, consistently failing to protect freshman quarterback Jalon Daniels, and only finding the end zone up to three times per game, I would say this was a justifiable move.

Meadows’ sophomore coaching effort with the Jayhawks has become his last, and this opened up an avenue for Les Miles to bring in some new blood. It appears that Miles has decided to go with John Morookian, a current offensive analyst for the Kansas coaching staff.

The new hire is obviously an interim replacement, as Miles commented during a press event saying “we felt there was an opportunity to promote John in and find out what his view of line play is”. Despite the considerable trust distilled in Morookian, I can’t entirely trust Mile’s judgment on the move.

Sure, we’re trying to experiment with the resources at our disposal but at the same time, something will need to legitimately change with this offensive line. I’m happy there is finally some action being taken, but I don’t think we should expect any major changes to our line going into these last few games.

Let’s hope Morookian takes advantage of his role to experiment as much as he can, and maybe find a way to stave off the Texas defense we have to face the next few weeks. An obvious priority is to protect Daniels in the pocket, and make some holes for strong running back Daniel Hishaw. It’d be nice to see Kansas put up some more points than we’ve seen most of the year, and it would be a better look for us even if we most likely close out the year winless.
