It’ll be yet another week until Kansas football returns to the field. Saturday’s meeting with Texas on December 12th has been postponed.

If there’s a team that can’t seem to catch a break, it’s Kansas football. Winless, stripped of their upperclassmen talent, and now failing to meet coronavirus regulations as we close out the season. This Saturday’s matchup has been rescheduled for December 12.

This might give Kansas some more time to prepare for the No. 22 Longhorns, but I’m not sure what can significantly change in a week. This will, however, place Jalon Daniels back in contention and give him more recovery time from his injury sustained vs. Oklahoma. Having Daniels available is probably Kansas’ major chance at even keeping up with the Longhorns.

Kansas also saw the recent departure of Davon Ferguson, which will only make things worse for the Jayhawks on defense. This issue aside, Kansas is paying attention to their defense in practice this week. Keeping the strong arm of Sam Ehlinger under control will be a priority for the Kansas air defense.

The change of plans set this matchup to be rescheduled for December 12, while Kansas still plans to host TCU in Lawrence on November 28th.

The announcement follows the decision to no longer admit fans to any home athletic events during November to help combat the spike of coronavirus in the region. That announcement can be found here.

Kansas isn’t the only school in the area to place these measures in place recently. I would expect similar precautions to be taken by other schools in the Midwest. We’ve already seen state rival Kansas State make similar pre-cautions by announcing that no fans will be allowed at their home basketball games in November.

These changes are scary to see, especially since we’re coming into the holiday season. It seems only time will tell whether or not the concerns surrounding coronavirus will be mitigated going forward. Until we see case numbers in the region go down, the forecast of college sports, particularly basketball, is going to look very bleak.
