True freshman quarterback Jalon Daniels is the quarterback of the future for Kansas football and he’s looked good despite recent losses.

This season has been tough sledding for Kansas football. The Jayhawks have been outplayed in all six of their games thus far, and things aren’t looking up for the rest of the schedule. There have been some bright spots for the Jayhawks though, and one of them is Jalon Daniels.

The true freshman quarterback from California has started in three of Kansas’ six games this season and his decision making has seemed to improve in each one.  Yesterday against Iowa State, Daniels threw for 165 yards and also found the endzone once, scoring his third rushing touchdown of this season.

When evaluating Daniels, it’s important to understand what the 18-year-old is working with. The Jayhawks’ offensive line has been quite possibly one of the worst in the FBS, which means Daniels is fearing for his life on nearly every pass play. Not to mention the fact that he’s making a lot of throws on the run.

Daniels seems to have the raw talent to be a staple in offensive coordinator Brent Dearmon’s system for years to come. Daniels has a cannon, and his ability to make plays on the ground looks like it’ll be one of his main weapons moving forward.

All things considered, it’s exciting to think about what Daniels could be for the Jayhawks in the future. It’s been forever since Kansas football has had a QB that’s actually started multiple years and that has the confidence of both the fans and coaching staff.

There’s no doubt that the coaching staff believes in Daniels and what he can do for Kansas football. The experience that he gets this season, as bad as the season may be, should pay dividends in the future as long as Daniels continues to develop.
