Kansas football landed a commitment yesterday from Jayson Gilliom, a two-star safety from Georgia in the 2021 recruiting class.

Kansas football’s 2021 recruiting class has landed its second prospect in five days with the commitment of Jayson Gilliom, a two-star recruit from Georgia. While the stars aren’t there, Gilliom could do well at Kansas.

At the time of his commitment, Gilliom held offers from Navy, Alcorn State, Lafayette, Southern Illinois, and many others. He also received some attention from Cal, Colorado, Michigan State, and UCF.

After checking out his highlight film, it makes sense why the Jayhawks were interested in Gilliom. He stands at six-two, and he makes plays all over the field. Gilliom can be seen sticking to receivers like glue, providing run support, blowing up bubble screens, and chasing down loose ball carriers on the other side of the field.

Here is Jayson Gilliom’s announcement that he’s committing to Kansas Jayhawks:

Despite the lack of stars and prestigious offers, Gilliom can succeed at Kansas if he receives good coaching from the staff. He seems to have the raw tools, they just need to be developed.

With the commitment of Gilliom, Kansas football’s 2021 class now ranks No. 41 in the nation overall and No. 5 in the Big 12 according to Rivals‘ team rankings. This is a solid spot for Les Miles and his staff to have the Jayhawks in, but they will likely fall down the rankings as we approach National Signing Day. The Jayhawks already have 21 commits compared to other schools that have fewer but higher-rated commits at this point.

As this 2021 class continues to get filled out by guys like Jayson Gilliom and Tanaka Scott, we’ll start to be able to pinpoint where this class ranks for Miles and the Jayhawks. Kansas and Miles need a solid recruiting class in 2021 because it could be the difference between getting things turned around or nothing changing.
