The Kansas football season keeps on moving forward as the Jayhawks still seek their first win. Sadly, things aren’t going to get easier this week vs. Iowa State.

The season has been a struggle for Kansas football and the fans. The Jayhawks are 0-5 on the year, and they suffered an embarrassing defeat last Saturday to in-state rival Kansas State. Things aren’t looking any easier this Saturday, with Kansas set to meet Iowa State in Lawrence. The Cyclones are already over a four-touchdown favorite over Kansas, which doesn’t bode well for the Jayhawks.

The Cyclones are currently ranked No. 23 in the AP Poll after being defeated last week on the road against No. 6 Oklahoma State. Iowa State gave the Cowboys all they could handle though, narrowly dropping the game 24-21.

If the Jayhawks are going to have a prayer, they’re must try to slow down the Iowa State offense, which features one of the best QB-RB combos in the Big 12. Quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Breece Hall have looked unstoppable at times, with Hall leading the Big 12 in rushing yards and scoring.

On the other hand, Purdy has already thrown for over 1,000 yards this season in addition to five touchdowns. Purdy has also been effective on the ground, totaling over 100 rushing yard plus a pair of touchdowns so far.

The good news for Kansas football is that their defense has looked better in the past two weeks despite the Jayhawks giving up 38 and 55 points respectively. Just last week, 28 points from the loss to K-State can be directly attributed to special teams and a pick-six thrown by Jalon Daniels.

Still, the Jayhawk defense will need to make major strides if they’re going to keep the Iowa State offense somewhat contained. Of course, Kansas will also need their offense to show up and their special teams to be reliable too. If these things don’t happen, expect yet another blow out loss for Kansas.
