Kansas football linebacker Dru Prox had a big game last Saturday against West Virginia, and he needs to replicate it throughout the rest of the season.

In Kansas football’s game against West Viginia, Dru Prox had a big day. He totaled eight tackles on the day, including a sack and three tackles for loss. It was the kind of Prox we liked to see last season before an injury in the fourth game of the season forced him to sit for the remainder of the Jayhawks’ games in 2019.

This season, Prox’s impact has been somewhat sporadic, and he’s also missed one of the Jayhawks’ four games. If Prox can match his performance against the Mountaineers in the rest of Kansas football’s game this season, it’d go a long way in helping this defense out.

One of the factors that likely led to Prox racking up so many tackles for loss is the frequency of blitzes that the Jayhawks sent. Kansas brought a lot of pressure, and it ultimately paid dividends in the first half of the game. The second half was more of a struggle, but the defense was not the reason the Jayhawks lost that game 38-17.

The lesson from this game is this: bringing pressure seemed to work for Kansas. The Jayhawks are quantifiably one of the worst teams in the country defensively, but they looked significantly better against the Mountaineers. They forced two turnovers and kept the Mountaineers in check for quite a while.

Now if only the Kansas offense could get itself figured out.

Dru Prox has the potential to be a game-changer this season for Kansas along with Kenny Logan Jr. and Davon Ferguson. We know all three can play, now let’s hope that the Jayhawks don’t back off of bringing pressure this Saturday against Kansas State, or Kansas could be in for a long game.
