Kansas football head coach Les Miles mentioned that Jalon Daniels’ injury may keep him off the field for the Jayhawks in the coming weeks.

The good news for Kansas football this week is that they have a bye week. After an 0-4 start the Jayhawks could use a break to regroup, but starting quarterback Jalon Daniels will need the break to recover from an injury he sustained last Saturday against the Cowboys.

Daniels left the Jayhawks’ game against Oklahoma State last week in the first half and did not return for the rest of the game. When talking about Daniels’ injury and the severity of it, head coach Les Miles said on Hawk Talk that “We expect it might take him a bit to get back.”

That’s certainly not good news, and it makes it sound like Daniels is actually banged up pretty bad. Of course, if you’re going to have an injury to a key player, this is the time to have it since Kansas has the next Saturday off.

With Daniels potentially out for the Jayhawks’ next game on the road against West Virginia, we could see either Miles Kendrick or Thomas MacVittie. Kendrick played last week against Oklahoma State once Daniels went down, going completing 11 of 19 passes for 90 yards and one interception.

MacVittie has been battling his own injuries since the first game of this season, so he could very well get the start against West Virginia in the event that Daniels can’t go. MacVittie is sort of an unknown though, given the fact that we’ve barely seen him play at this point. His only action came against Coastal Carolina, and he didn’t play that much in the game.

For Kansas football, who they put in at quarterback probably won’t matter a ton this season. The upside potential of Daniels is why he’s been getting the starts, and the experience he gets this season will presumably be valuable for him as he continues to develop. With any luck, he’ll be back on the field sooner rather than later.
