Kansas football suffered a 47-7 loss to #17 Oklahoma State on homecoming weekend. The embarrassing “knock-out” loss furthers the decline of the program as we finish off Week 3.

Exhausting. That would be the word I’d use to summarize the experience of watching this year’s homecoming game. This was perhaps one of the worst games Kansas football fans have seen through the Les Miles era.

Kansas came out flat on a strategy that relied on a rushing attack that that focused their efforts upon finding space for Pooka Williams Jr. While this isn’t a bad idea, the lack of a supportive offensive line and easily readable plays drawn up by the Jayhawks squashed any ability of this to work in Kansas’ favor.

Williams secured only 32 yards on 14 touches at the ball. Pooka saw more carries this week, although it did not yield any advantage for a Kansas team that went an atrocious 1 for 14 on third downs.

The offensive mistakes were ridiculous, with exemption to the early exit of true freshman quarterback Jalon Daniels, who saw his brief share of difficulty to try and organize the Jayhawk offense. Kansas would go scoreless clear until 12:04 in the 4th quarter.

The defensive story shares the same prerogative of being disappointing, despite brief showings of hope early on in the game. This however was extremely short-lived, as the Cowboys outplayed Kansas, averaging near 5 yards per rush and 10 yards per pass.

Allowing these kinds of numbers only shot the Jayhawks deeper into the dirt. It was not a hard-fought game by any means. This has become a major problem for Les Miles, where he consistently is seeing his players outlasted and outworked, resulting in these high score blowouts.

Until Kansas can adjust their presence on the field to produce any kind of consistent play, we can expect this kind of output time and time again. It has become a display of the game that I feel is not motivating our students to follow the program, and that is simply unacceptable if football is ever to find success again in Lawrence.
