Kansas football got embarrassed in their first game of the season against Coastal Carolina at home in a 38-23 loss. The Jayhawks are going to need to have a strong showing against the Baylor Bears tonight, or they could end up going down a spiral that they won’t be able to recover from.

Going into this game, Kansas does have a couple of advantages. The Jayhawks had an entire bye week to prepare for the Bears, who have yet to play a game yet this season. Kansas has already seen action, so they should come out as prepared as they can possibly be.

Baylor also had to replace nearly their entire defense from last season, which should give KU running backs Pooka Williams and Velton Gardner the opportunities for big days. Regarding the Jayhawks’ quarterback situation, head coach Les Miles mentioned that Kansas would likely play multiple quarterbacks again this week.

The main focus for the Kansas offense this week though is to limit turnovers.

The Jayhawks turned the ball over three times in the first half against Coastal Carolina, and all three mistakes resulted in immediate touchdowns for the Chanticleers. Kansas has to do a better job of taking care of the football, or they risk getting absolutely boat raced by the Baylor Bears.

Winning tonight isn’t going to be easy, but Kansas football can keep it close and give themselves a chance if they play well. They’ll need to get pressure on quarterback Charlie Brewer, they’ll need to establish their ground game, and of course, they’ll have to protect the football.
