Kansas football is supposed to take on the Baylor Bears next Saturday in Waco, but the game may be in jeopardy due to COVID-19.

Nothing is coming easy this season. Kansas football’s second game of 2020 against Baylor next Saturday looks like it may not be happening due to COVID-19 concerns, and it would be a bad deal for the Jayhawks if it’s canceled.

Baylor was supposed to take on Houston in Waco today on September 19; however, the game was postponed. The Bears did not meet the Big 12 requirements regarding COVID-19. Obviously this is a tough break for Baylor and their head coach Dave Aranda, who’s just trying to coach his first game with the team.

Here’s what Aranda had to say about the postponement via ESPN:

"“We’re heartbroken from this postponement. While we’ve been eager to play football this fall, we have all made a commitment to only do so with the highest level of safety and care for our student-athletes. We are disappointed for our team, staff and our fans, but look forward with great anticipation to renewing this rivalry in the future.”"

While losing this game would be tough for Kansas, there would be at least a couple of positives. One would be the extended rest time for Pooka Williams, who got banged up in the Jayhawks’ season opener against Coastal Carolina.

Kansas would also get another week to prepare for their next opponent, and if the Coastal Carolina loss taught us anything, the Jayhawks need all of the advantages they can get. The Jayhawks’ next opponent will be Oklahoma State on October 3, and the Cowboys are a strong team. It’ll be a tough game, so maybe having an extra week to prepare will help level the playing field.
