The Kansas Jayhawks are set to kick off the 2020 college football season later tonight against Coastal Carolina. As head coach Les Miles and his team begin their 2020 season, there won’t be any fans in the stands, but that shouldn’t be an issue.

Kansas should be plenty motivated to face the Chanticleers after falling to them at home last season in an embarrassing 12-7 loss. Matters were made even worse after the game when Coastal Carolina beat up a Jayhawk piñata that they’d hung up in their locker room. The video of the incident went viral, and it should give the Jayhawks all the bulletin board material they could ever ask for.

This season, Coastal Carolina isn’t projected to be very good. As a matter of fact, Athlon ranked the Chanticleers last in the Sun Belt Conference East division. Stopping running back CJ Marable is a must for Kansas, but they should be able to handle Coastal Carolina.

The big question this game isn’t about the Chanticleers though, it’s about who the Kansas Jayhawks’ are going to rely on at quarterback. Les Miles has indicated that both Thomas MacVittie and Miles Kendrick would be getting snaps, but that he would stick with one QB if they performed well.

Whether or not MacVittie or Kendrick gets more snaps, one thing is for certain: KU football needs to start off this 2020 season with a win. Losing to Coastal Carolina again would set the wrong tone, and it may not be something the Jayhawks are able to recover from.
