It almost doesn’t seem real, but the start of Kansas football’s 2020 football season is just over 24 hours away from getting started.

With the Pac-12, Big Ten, and other conferences canceling or attempting to move their football seasons, it looked like the Big 12 and Kansas football may follow suit. Then, the Big 12, SEC, and ACC decided they’d go ahead with a Fall season, at least for now. Against the odds, the Kansas Jayhawks will kick off their 2020 season tomorrow night at 9:00 PM against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

That doesn’t mean everything is normal for the Jayhawks though. For starters, no fans will be allowed to attend the game at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium, for now. Athletic Director Jeff Long didn’t rule out the possibility of having fans at games this season, but for now it’s a no-go.

Of course, the athletes and coaches are being tested and monitored for COVID-19 almost constantly, adding another necessary wrinkle to this already strange year. The fact that the 2020 season could be canceled at any moment can’t be easy for the players and coaches, but at least they’ll be able to play their game tomorrow night against the Chanticleers.

Throw in any other negative news, and the fact that we’ll get to see some Kansas football tomorrow is a welcome way to spend a Saturday. As a matter of fact, spending the whole Saturday watching Power Five conferences play college football sounds amazing after going so long without college athletics.

That’s more than Pac-12 and Big Ten teams can say, even we don’t even know who the Jayhawks’ starting quarterback will be or how the defense will look after a lot of graduations. The truth is, it feels good to be playing football again.
