Kansas football commit Devin Neal had a huge game Lawrence High School’s season opener. Hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come.
Kansas football has struggled at times to out-recruit in-state rival Kansas State for local prospects. The Jayhawks were able to land four-star running back Devin Neal of Lawrence High School though. He’s ranked as the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Kansas for the class of 2021.
Last night, Neal torched Shawnee Heights with 139 rushing yards, 51 receiving yards, and three total touchdowns. Lawrence High easily won the game 53-0. Neal was recently upgraded to a four-star prospect on 247Sports’ Composite Rankings and it definitely looks like he’s earned it.
Neal stands at six feet tall and 208 pounds. He holds offers from Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, and Iowa, while also receiving interest from West Virginia and Baylor. Along with four-star receiver Keon Coleman, Neal is a cornerstone of the Jayhawks’ 2021 class.
As of now, Kansas’ 2021 class ranks No. 35 in the country and No. 4 in the Big 12 according to Rivals. Head coach Les Miles and his staff have done a great job so far, and if they can finish strong on this class it could be one of the best in recent memory for the Kansas Jayhawks.
If this first game is a sign of things to come for Neal, then landing him might be even more important than Kansas football fans realize. There’s a decent chance that this will be Pooka Williams’ last season in Lawrence, giving Neal a chance to step in and have a chance to get playing time as a true freshman.
He definitely looks like he’s ready to make the jump to the Power Five level after his performance against Shawnee Heights, and it’s exciting to think about what Neal can do for the rest of this season. He’s certainly one Kansas football commit that you’ll want to keep an eye on.
