October 24, Kansas football @ Kansas State

Last season, Kansas completely dropped the ball against in-state rival Kansas State in front of a sold-out David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. The Jayhawks were defeated 10-38, and they wouldn’t win a game the rest of the season after beating Texas Tech the week before.

This season, Kansas State should be an average team in the Big 12. Skylar Thompson will be back at quarterback, but there may be issues on the offensive line considering the Wildcats lost four starters from last season’s unit. On defense, Kansas State should be fairly mediocre, not great, but not bad either.

The Wildcats did shine on special teams last season, so Kansas will have to be sure that they’re prepared in that regard. It could easily be the difference between winning and losing.

The series between these two has been completely lopsided for over a decade, and changing that would go a long way in helping Les Miles both in recruiting and reputation. For Kansas, this is a game they need to give themselves a chance to win. It won’t be easy playing on the road, but the Jayhawks need to try and stay competitive with the Wildcats, unlike last season.

Prediction: Kansas 26, Kansas State 35
